Equine Welfare, Where Fact and Emotion Collide

Equine Welfare, Where Fact and Emotion CollideEquine Welfare, Where Fact and Emotion Collide Dr. Thomas Lenz, DVM, Senior Director, Equine Technical Services, leads with quote:

"Animal welfare is fast becoming the major challenge of the veterinary profession for this century." said by Dr. Bernie Osborn, Dean Emeritus of the University of California Davis School of Veterinary Medicine

Veterinarians, farmers, and ranchers have less credibility with consumers than HSUS about information on the farm. Dr. Lenz lays out what animal welfare is and is not and how the term is applied to horses. What is one to do? Dr. Lenz suggested that welfare challenges are an opportunity to find common ground but to also keep in mind that emotion & misinformation will often override science & fact.
