SwineCast Update for March 8, 2012, Impact of DDGs

SwineCast is back in Denver this week for the American Association of Swine Veterinarians meeting and the pre-AASV Boehringer Ingelheim symposium on Swine Health and Nutrition. This programing focused on feed costs comes at a good time. Some economists and production professionals are hearing justification for $4 corn, maybe going to $8 corn. These prices are mainly dependent on weather.

We are sharing conversations from the Pork Industry Forum, first from retiring Pork Board President Everett Forkner, and then National Pork Producers Council CEO Neil Diercks. Both organizations are quickly responding to the recent move by McDonald's to dig deep on sow housing throughout their supply chain. While studies have been funded to help settle the matter, producers understand that science provides only part of the answer.
