Dr. Mike Day, The Ohio State University, asks ""At what ages can a period of intensified feeding of heifers hasten puberty relative to females developed as per normal industry recommendations?"" Dr. Day's take aways: 1) A period of intensified feeding will advance puberty in heifers of varying breeds and environments; 2) More work needed to determine most efficient way to incorporate this knowledge into a given system; and 3) Nutritional status for the entire time from birth to first breeding can impact reproductive success.

Dr. Michael Ballou, Texas Tech University, opens by addressing why pre-weaned calves get sick and then digs into how nutrition influences immunity of calves. Dr. Ballou shares that data indicates that post-weaned health is improved among calves that were previously fed a higher plane of milk replacer.
