Dr. Alison Van Eenennaam - The #Scicomm: Challenge Facing Animal Agriculture

The #Scicomm: Challenge Facing Animal Agriculture - Dr. Alison Van Eenennaam, Cooperative Extension Specialist, Animal Biotechnology and Genomics, Department of Animal Science, University of California, Davis, USA, from the 2016 Allen D. Leman Swine Conference, September 17-20, 2016, St. Paul, Minnesota, USA.

Dr. Alison Van Eenennaam, Department of Animal Science, University of California, Davis, USA, shares how communication of science is not working between people in agriculture and those outside of agriculture.

One of her key messages centers around "Deficit Model" of communication: people come back to conversations armed with fact to react to incorrect statements.

However, facts are not compelling to the public. Dr. Van Eenennaam says it is critical that communication be tailored to the needs of a specific audience for their to be real change in how people connect to agriculture.
