Dr. Craig Lewis, Veterinary Medical Officer, US Food and Drug Administration Center for Veterinary Medicine, presents the US Food and Drug Administration's activities regarding antimicrobial resistance and food-producing animals. The Center for Veterinary Medicine is one of the few FDA organizations focused on both human and animal health issues. Dr. Lewis points out the FDA's history dealing with antibiotic resistance and highlights what the FDA is currently doing and will be doing going forward. Dr. Lewis mentions there is a strong need to have data from many sources to help make decisions but currently there are data privacy restrictions that must be worked around to get to a workable solution set.
