Formulas only work partially ... MagicTriad

Submitted by John Blue on Fri, 08/15/2008 - 04:15.

Another session at the New Media Expo by Jason Van Orden of JasonVanOrden.com

He advocates that a show series (in the vein of podcast) must:

  • Inform
  • Entertain
  • Offer belonging

Get his book for most of his material. And his presentation is going to be at http://www.jasonvanorden.com/magictriad/ . Jason's approach is one of those in the new media echo chamber, selling to the new media world books on podcasting, consulting services on how to podcast, and services on how to market on the web.

He tries to provide a "formula" that if you follow then you will magically get the audience you want. Unfortunately, formulas do not work because selling and building a conversation with people is a one on one activity. Yes, you can add processes (formulas) to help support your scaling. But there is still a need to connect personally. And, like Gary Vaynerchuk of Wine Library TV said, "What you do must be in your DNA and execute against that!". Is marketing part of your DNA?
