2011 is World Veterinary Year

The World Veterinary Year is 2011, as declared by the World Organisation for Animal Health. This year marks the 250th year since the world’s first veterinary school was founded in Lyon, France.
National and international veterinary institutions will be promoting the birth of the veterinary profession. In actively doing so, they will raise public awareness about the importance of their profession, while at the same reminding opinion leaders and policymakers everywhere in the world that veterinarians have been serving humankind for 250 years.
January 24, 2011 is the official opening ceremony of the World Veterinary Year, in Versailles - France. Various events throughout the year will highlight the achievements those in veterinary practice have accomplished.
