SwineCast update for Februray 19th, 2009, South American Pork Production and PigSki 2009

Update for February 19th, 2009

Some good news surfaced out at Pigski as well-known economist Steve Meyer suggested producers look for profitable prices during the second and third quarter of the year. Any light at the end of the tunnel is a welcome break at this point. Dr Jose Piva of PIC shared his thoughts on South American production and you can hear that program back at SwineCast.com.

Two items to share… one, attendance down at all industry gatherings (including the recently cancelled Responsible Pork Symposium). Those making the show are preparing for what we believe to be profitable markets in the future. Tyson’s plan closings and Pilgrim’s Pride bankruptcy reinforcing the difficulty of the perfect storm the protein industry has faced.

Number two, I’m really encouraged by producers and industry leaders who’ve told me they’re receiving this email and find it of value. We’re most interested in helping to meet your management and production information needs through our internet media. Any thoughts you have on making it better are greatly appreciated and welcome at feedback@swinecast.com .
