Update for January 22, 2009

We are covering the Banff Pork Seminar so be sure to check out the conference connection tab to stay up on those conversations with Canadian producers and industry leaders. Several hours of travel but rewarded with a different perspective on the North American industry makes it a worthwhile trip. Oh yes, and the mountains. Beautiful location. Conversations on finding profitability in the post-COOL era. Stay tuned.

Banff Swine Seminar 2009

Just back from the American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF) convention in Texas. That organization walking the tightrope between grain and livestock production, but pulls together on many of the key issues facing agriculture.

What they've got right is the Young Farmer and Rancher group which is a connection point for young singles and couples looking to make their way in farming. And they're using this group to speak out on behalf of good management and husbandry practices in all livestock production. A lot of other organizations would do well to spend as much time with the up and comers as Farm Bureau.

Next week we'll be at the Iowa Pork Congress. We'll be bringing you a variety of speaker presentations and capturing the conversations on how people are working through the tough times.
