Information To Help Your Operations

  • Audio: What Does NIAA Have In Store For Its Conference? - Scott Stuart shares what the 2011 National Institute for Animal Agriculture conference will provide. "Animal agriculture must begin to incorporate consumer desires, wishes, and input into how animals are raised. The first step involves educating farmers and ranchers about the consumer issues and develop goals to bring consumers closer to the process."
  • Audio: Air Emissions Toolbox Shows Promise - Promising research to limit air emissions through the use of nanoparticle technology is presented.

Agriculture Telling its Story

  • Audio: Adding a Human Voice to the Farm - At South by Southwest, Chris Chinn (swine producer), Emily Zweber (dairy producer), Jeff Fowle (rancher), and Zach Hunnicutt (corn grower) shared how farmers are using social and new media to bridge the gap between the 2% of the population who are farmers, and the remaining 98% of people who are not. The panel, moderated by Marla Schulman, are all family farmers who are driven and deeply committed to agriculture and want to share what they have with others.
  • How Will Radiation Affect Dairy Production? - The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) reported that milk products in Spokane, Wash had 0.8 pCi/L of iodine-131, a level 5,000 times lower than the Derived Intervention Level set by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
  • Ag and Social Media? - Yes, agriculture does use social media. With 2% of Americans involved with ag food production compared to 100% of everyone eats, there is a need for farmers and ranchers to share their story: social media is a major outlet.
  • Audio: How Farmers Get Serious Business Done With Mobile - Audrey Bartlett (Product Marketing Manager with John Deere‘s Intelligent Solutions Group), Jeff Caldwell (Multimedia Editor for Agriculture.com/Meredith Corporation), Justin Davey (Multimedia Producer for Agriculture.com/Meredith Corporation), Nathan Wright (founder of media consulting firm Lava Row), and Neil Mylet (founder and CEO of LoadOut Technologies, LLC) share how farmers are using technology and mobile devices to get real work done on real farms. Also learn more about how ag media is adjusting to mobile and social media.
