SwineCast Update for June 9, 2011, World Pork Expo Updates and COOL

Covering the World Pork Expo is both a mental and physical exercise. This week we'll sprint from the World Pork Expo press center to the Varied Industry Building for producer presentations, Pork Academy and trade seminars.  We kick off this year's coverage with NPPC's Audrey Adamson discussing key issues in Washington which have the potential to impact the industry beyond our imagination.  Top concerns out here; GIPSA, feed availability and government regulation.

On the good news side... the lower cooking temperature just released for U.S. pork products can make a big difference in taste and texture, if it's used (is this also the USDA energy policy?).  Most consumers over-cook pork because they believe it should be without any basis in fact.  Know the new temps and share them regularly with those you know and meet.

We'll also be bringing the most up to date information on continuing PRRS Area/Regional Control efforts from the Boehring-Ingelheim symposium.  Those complete video presentations will be highlighted in coming weeks.
