Avian Influenza Concerns Impact to Poultry Industry?

ProMED has listed several incidences of dead birds in Japan, possibly linked to avian influenza (H5N1)

Recent discovery of several dead migratory birds in Japan has raised concerns about H5NI avian influenza, avian experts said.

The New York Times reports that several bird sanctuaries, poultry farms and zoos went on high alert. The Japanese Environment Ministry stated the highly infectious H5N1 strain of avian influenza was found in a hooded crane in
Izumi plain, Kagoshima Prefecture.

Additional H5N1 confirmations have been reported in two poultry farms in South Korea and ProMED has listed several H5N1 infections in humans in Egypt.
