Q7- I think rotational grazing is one way a pasture based organic system could be efficient #agchat

Q7 Gets back to an earlier point about how you measure productivity. #agchat

Q7 where there is a will there is a way, If we are forced to go that way they will have to be hands down! Hopefully its not 2morrow #agchat

mpaynknoper:
Q7 Efficient yes. Serving a market, yes. I don't believe it can feed the world. Room for variety of #ag practices. #agchat

Q7 - organic methods can be profitable and efficient, but currently is not as efficient as conventional farmingnot sure if it can b #agchat

Q7:ohh my Q made the cut. answer: we are finding a lot of efficiencies, we didn't realize were there. #agchat

Q7: i still see major problems with organic field crops, hard to be economical due to weeds, labor, low demand for crops #agchat

Q7 I try to talk to all different types of producers, lots to learn from them also. #agchat

@mlewindy Q7 It seems various production practices pit one against the other only if each uses a negative sell. #agchat

Q7 we are not organic but like using fly predator wasps for fly control instead of chemicals. #agchat
-
leahbeyer:
Q7: Organic is one of many methods needed to provide food sustainable food to world. Some land more efficient than others w/organic. #agchat
-
ezweber:
Q7: grazing= less manure hauling and tmr mixing, less $$ on vet, chemicals, etc #agchat

Q7 A local farmer has a small % of organic certified due to its labor intensity. #agchat

AgriLawyer:
Q7: The ? would be whether that is the aim of the majority of organic farmers - I'm sure some will disagree, but I don't think it is #agchat

Q7: Of course! But IMO not for the same affordable price as what we want to pay in the stores... #agchat

JeffACSH:
Q7 How can organic farming possibly be efficient and highly productive, if it requires tying hands behind back #agchat
-
JMJLaurent:
Q7 I think it is just supply and demand. There is a group demanding organic. But Organic cannot feed the world. #agchat
-
-
follownathan:
Q7 Sure if you want watered down organic regulations that get shipped to your plate from a monofarm in CA #agchat

ezweber:
Q7: also proper crop rotation and soil mang means only one cult pass through the fields #agchat

-
JeffACSH:
Q7 If organic farming were more efficient, why would farmers spend $ on non-organic technologies? To WASTE money? #tcot #agchat

drewbender:
Agreed RT @JMJLaurent: Q7 I think it is just supply and demand. There is a group demanding organic. Organic cannot feed the world. #agchat

Q7 ones I have visited have a loooong way to go be efficient & highly productive; BUT in fairness, they admit that is not their goal #agchat

Q7: Realization of market and growing demand is important for organics, not cynicism of other methods. #agchat

less herbcide for me RT @ezweber: Q7: also proper crop rotation and soil mang means only one cult pass through the fields #agchat

Q7 just hate that sometimes the organic, grass-fed. etc. feel like they are on the other side of the fence from me. We are all Ag! #agchat

agropinion:
Q7 We need all methods, all sizes of farming to meet demand and provide what consumer wants. #agchat

And recognize the dif. in regional needs. What works outside metro area might not work in KS! RT @mpaynknoper: Q7 Room for variety #agchat

Mica_MON:
Q7 Why does organic have to be efficient? Not saying it isn't, just asking why that has to be part of definition. #agchat
-
follownathan:
Q7 I dont think the goal of REAL orgainc is efficient and productive. Goal is food with dense nutrition that restores the soil #agchat
-
-
sollmana:
Q7: Def look @ how efficiency's measured. Is less total product produced? Maybe. But can make more $. Good use of resources IMHO #agchat
-
WillRogersToday:
Q7. Organic corn grown using ridge-tillage could be quite productive. Minimum erosion. Add manure and cover crop for fertility. #agchat
-
Porkchop1950:
Agree with @Mica_MON Q7 Ydoes organic have to be efficient? Not saying it isn't, just asking Y that has to be part of definition. #agchat

Q7 #agchat Once again...why is it "us" vs. "them?" If you're a farmer, you're a farmer. Learn to work together, ya buttheads.

PoppyDavis:
Question of efficiency & organic has everything 2do with definition of efficiency. Mono-cropped organic not particularly efcnt. #agchat Q7
-
JacksonFarms:
Q7 organic crops are better at some places than other. Certain places have to much weed or insect pressure. #agchat
-
iTweetMeat:
Q7 Mny use "efficient" interchangably w/ "profitable." IMHO, 2 vry diff things. Efficient should be >food for <$, Not >$ for <food. #agchat

Q7: Need to create niches and fill them. But with dwindling numbers need to remember we are in this together #agchat

Q7 Change the definition of efficient: Yield/ha ---> Yield/inputs. Suddenly things look quite different #agchat
-
PoppyDavis:
Diverse organic w/ animal weed control/fertilizer & floral insectiaries can b closed system & very efficient. #agchat Q7

akleinschmidt:
Another excellent point RT @PotatoPro Q7 Change the definition of efficient: Yield/ha ---> Yield/inputs. Suddenly things look diff't #agchat

Q7 Sure! there are methods we can all learn from in Organic, but us a whole, no I dont think so #agchat

I agree! RT @lavielamour: Q7 Sure! there are methods we can all learn from in Organic, but us a whole, no I dont think so #agchat

Q7. In 1930s, practically all farming was organic. Not very productivity compared to today. #agchat
-
PoppyDavis:
Bigger issue is definition of efficient.1critique of modern ag is that it externalizes costs, efficient 2farm but not society. #agchat Q7
-
yourlocalfoods:
Q7 organic yields are improving, premium price (for now), nonorganic input costs are rising. Worth crunching numbers sometimes. #agchat

Q7. China is far more "organic" than US. In China 43% of population works on a farm. In US, less than 2%. That's ag productivity. #agchat
